I've trained with Sifu Derek for almost two years. He is my first kung fu Sifu (Master) and he's the most important Sifu in my life. Before I train with Derek, I did some research on wing chun, and knew there are many other places teach wing chun. It was hard to decide which one is the best. One day, my friend told me he knew a guy who is teaching wing chun, and introduce Sifu Derek to me. To be honest, the first time I met Derek I was a little disappointed. He is like the same age as me, and looks like a normal gym guy. But after the first class, he totally changed my understanding of kung fu. From that day forward, he is not only teaching me wing chun forms, but also sparring with me. He always taught me that forms are totally different from a real fight. In real fight, I have no time to think about techniques, it’s all about conditioned response. That’s what he teaching me: let the techniques become natural, from form to formless.
